The Silent Guardians are a Chapter of Space Marines whose area of operations include Sector Deus, their perpetual task is to guard Forbidden Worlds across several Sectors for the Inquisition.

The first time the Silent Guardians became known to the Chapter, was during Operation Ghostly Justice, when they stumbled upon the tortured and mutilated Sixtus Acenos, who spoke of the Fated Chapters for the first time, and aked the Chapter Master to find Silencius

The second time was even less fortunate than the first. After a warpdrive malfunction, the Ghosts stranded in orbit around the forbidden world of Olympia. While repairs were made, the Ghosts explored one of the wrecks in orbit. They took the pre-heresy Iron Warriors gene-seed and the relic Gatebreaker found within. After they left the system, they were greeted by the armed ships, of the unhappy Captain Akarmos, who didn't take this tresspassing and looting kindly. After some negotiatons, they let the Ghosts go with all their plunder, in turn of luring Dercius D'anger, into their grasp. When obliging, the Chaper Master sent Inquisitor Faceless in prusuit, to sieze Dercius's belongings. The Inquisitor haven't been heard of since. Suffice to say, trespassing, looting, betraying and snitching wasn't the best way to introduce the Chapter to the Silent Guardians.

The third encounter in 348.M41 was in a much better sight. When the Ebon Host was threatening Imperial space, especially Varda, the Ghosts warned the Silent Guardians, since the warband's incursion threatened other three forbidden worlds as well. In the system of Artoria, the Ghosts of Retribution, the Silent Guardians, and the forces of the Imperial Navy defeated the Nurglite warband.

The next time the Ghosts of Retribution and the Silent Guardians would meet would be following the latters' defeat in battle at the hands of a Chaos warband on the world of Xataria, where they lost 28 Brothers at the hands of a possessed daemon engine known as Defiler. The Ghosts of Retribution offered to assist the Silent Guardians in their counterassault. The resultant Battle of Aspox Forest was an Imperial victory and Defiler was vanquished.

In the wake of the battle Chapter Master spoke with Akarmos - now Acting Chapter Master - about the fate of Dercius D'anger. Akarmos confirmed that they had destroyed the Rogue Trader's flagship with him aboard, and had not detected any saviour pods leading them to strongly believe he had been killed. However when asked about Silencius, Akarmos was reserved and revealed little.
